January 15, 1789

THE DAILY ADVERTISER, New York, Jan. 15, 1789  This was the nation's capital at the time, just prior to the creation of the new federal government (Washington was inaugurated April 30). Page 2 has a letter from Virginia concerning electing representatives for the newly created Congress: "...the general assembly of this state adjourned after giving many proofs of their disapprobation of the system of government adopted by the convention in June last. " which is reference to Virginia's ratification of the Constitution, plus more concerning the coming election (see). Also a report from the Pennsylvania Society for Promoting the Abolition of Slavery (see).
The back page has 16 illustrated ship ads, and a nice cabinet & chair maker ad for Thomas Burling which is illustrated also.

Four pages, very nice condition.
