THE NEW YORK TIMES, New York, July 27, 1948

* President Truman's Executive Order ending racial bias in the military
* Babe Ruth's last public appearance
* 'The Babe Ruth Story' opening premiere

This 46 page newspaper has on page one: "Truman Orders End Of Bias In Forces And Federal Jobs...", with considerable supporting text. Page 18 has, under 'SCREEN": "'The Babe Ruth Story' Starring William Bendix as Baseball Hero, Opens at Astor" with photo of the star actor (see photos). Tells of the opening day premiere of this famous Babe Ruth movie. Also a one column headline on the same page is: "RUTH SEES PREMIERE OF FILM ON HIS LIFE". This would actually be Babe Ruth's last public appearance before his death a few weeks later. Great to have this in this famous NYC title.

Other news of the day throughout. Rag edition, nice condition.

wikipedia notes: The Babe Ruth Story is a 1948 baseball film biography of Babe Ruth, the famed New York Yankees slugger. It stars William Bendix as the ballplayer and Claire Trevor as his wife. It was rush released while Ruth himself was still alive. Oddly, it makes no mention whatsoever of Ruth's first wife, Helen.
