NILES' WEEKLY REGISTER, Baltimore, July 9, 1814 The front page begins with an interesting editorial headed: "Hints to Patriots" and beginning: "Our enemy, disengaged from all other wars, prepared for instant action, with a power of arms, money & intrigue unparalleled experienced by 20 years battles in all the business of fight...seems about to gratify his long-continued jealousy & hate. He acknowledged the independence of these states of necessity & has, at all times, considered us a revolted people..." and much more.
Inside has two pages taken up with details of the court martial charges against William Cox, Henry Fleischman, William Brown, James Forrest, and Joseph Russell, including many documents signed in type by Stephen Decatur, James Madison, W. Jones & Tho. Selfridge.
Reports under: "Events of the War" take over 2 pages and include "Retaliation", a report beginning: "The Eastern coast of the United States is much vexed by the enemy..." and which includes a lengthy letter to Comm. Perry concerning the British landing at Wareham, Mass.
Included is the 8 page "Supplement" issue which includes a full page chart headed: "A Series of Tables of the Several Branches of American Manufactures".
Complete in 24 pages with the Supplement, 6 1/4 by 9 3/4 inches, great condition.

This newspaper began in 1811 and was a prime source for national political news of the first half of the19th century. As noted in Wikipedia, this title: "...(was) one of the most widely-circulated magazines in the United States...Devoted primarily to politics...considered an important source for the history of the period."
