March 04, 1790

THE MORNING POST & DAILY ADVERTISER, London, March 4, 1790

* Convicts to Australia
* Earliest European settlement at Botany Bay

Page 3 has a report with an early mention of "Botany Bay", or Australia: "Yesterday morning 30 convicts sentenced for transportation were removed from Newgate to Woolwich in order to be put on board one of the ships bound to Botany Bay." Further on is another reporting noting: "The same day sentence of death was passed on the following convicts...Three were sentenced to be transported for 14 years, 21 for seven years..." with a bit more. To be "transported" meant heading to the penal colony in Australia.
Four pages, very nice condition.
