April 23, 1942

NEWSDAY, Nassau County, New York, April 23, 1942  Distributed (ironically) on the very day German air raids began bombing cathedral cities in Britain, the front page has the 3-line full-banner heading, "London Hears May 1 Is Zero Hour For Invasion Of Europe", with additional details on page two. However, the most notable feature is the front page photo of Lt. Commander Edward "Butch" O'Hare, with the caption that continues, "...the fighting aviator whose bullets knocked six Jap planes out of the air in five minutes." This is the same "O'Hare" of whom the O'Hare International Airport in Chicago was named.
The issue is complete in 32 pages, has even toning and a few edge tears, but is otherwise quite nice - suitable for display.
