July 17, 1862

THE NEW YORK HERALD, July 17, 1862

* Helena, Arkansas

This is a genuine Civil War newspaper from Abraham Lincoln's administration with one column headlines which include: "NEWS FROM WASHINGTON", "Passage of the Bill to Call Out the Militia and Employ Negroes in the Army", "Important From Tennessee", "Important From Arkansas", "The Forced March of General Curtis' Army to Helena", "Visit of Mrs. President Lincoln to the Wounded Soldiers", and more.
Complete in eight pages. This issue is not fragile as newsprint from this era had high cotton/linen content allowing them to remain pliable and easy to handle. There is a "u"-shaped piece missing in the lower right margin on the front page which does cause a small amount of loss of text. See photos for details.
