April 30, 1743

THE CHRISTIAN HISTORY, (Boston), April 30, 1743

* Rare colonial periodical

This was the very first successful magazine in America, preceded by just a few magazines which lasted but a couple of issues, including one by Ben Franklin. And even this title lasted but a few short years. As the subtitle reads: "Containing Accounts of the Propagation & Revival of Religion in Great Britain & America", this 8 page magazine is entirely taken up with religious content from the "Great Awakening" period in American history.
The entire issue is taken up with a discussion which begins: "We now proceed to some accounts of the Spirit, Power and Prevalence of Religion among the original Settlers of New England..." (see). The top of the inside pages reads: "The Religion of the first Settlers of New-England".
This issue is complete in 8 pages, in great condition, measures 4 3/4 by 8 inches. The imprint appears at the bottom of the back page: "BOSTON: N. E., Printed for Thomas Prince..." with more (see). A rare opportunity for an American imprint from 1743.
