THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, England, September, 1797  Includes a short letter by Benjamin Franklin, originally written by him in Paris in 1784 (see).  Elsewhere are reports from Lord Horatio Nelson on the Battle of Santa Cruz de Tenerife where he was severely wounded and lost his right arm, signed in type: Lord Nelson.
One of the 2 full page plates called for is present.
Complete in 88 pages, 5 by 8 inches, full title/contents pate with an engraving of St. John's Gate, great condition.

This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
