GLEASON'S WEEKLY LINE-OF-BATTLE SHIP, Boston, Feb. 26, 1859 This newspaper has one of the most ornate & decorative masthead to be found in any newspaper from any period of time (see), and includes an ornate border around each of the 8 pages as well. The ftpg. features a dramatic engraving titled: "Representation of a Wild Boar Hunt in Algeria." with a related article. Page 3 has a short story "Written for the Line-of-Battle-Ship" by Horatio Alger, Jr., titled "The Gold Piece; or, the Newsboy's Temptation" which takes over two columns of text. An early work by this famous author who mastered the "rags to riches" genre. Other prints in this issue include: "Sleighing Scene on Boston Neck" and "Cuban Volante, for Ladies in Fashionable drives in the Paseo De Isabel, Havana"
This issue is in very nice, clean condition.
