GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, May, 1762 Among the articles in this issue are: "Specific for the Hiccough [hiccup]" "Considerations on the Present War, as it Respects England and France" takes over a full page; "Extract of a Letter from Major General Monckton...dated at St. Peter's in the Island of Martinico [Dominican Republic]..." "Account of the Island of Granada" which is a nice description of it; "Cure for the Head-Ache" "New Musical Machine" and other articles.Of interest as well is a very descriptive article taking over a full page titled: "A Description of Buckingham House, just Purchased by the King for a Palace for the queen's Majesty". This is the current Buckingham Palace (see for portions). Its first use by the Royal Family is noted on another page with a very brief item dated May 22: "Their majesties lay for the first time at Buckingham House. The court is kept at St. James's as usual."
Near the back is the "Historical Chronicle" which has the latest news reports of the day, mostly European.

Complete in 54 pages, measures 5 by 8 inches with a full title/contents page featuring an engraving of St. John's Gate, untrimmed, nice condition.
A very nice French & Indian War era magazine from the "mother country" with a wide range of varied content including news of the day, political reports, literary items, and other unusual tidbits. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
