May 14, 1864

DAILY RICHMOND EXAMINER, Virginia, May 14, 1864

* Battle of Yellow Tavern - Virginia
* General J. E. B. Stuart death & funeral
* It is BEST to have reports from the location where an event occurred

A very nice newspaper from the capital of the Confederacy. The front page has: "The War News--Retreat and Escape of the Enemy on the Meadow Bridge Road--Latest From General Lee's Army--Movements On the Southside, Etc." and various subheads including: "A Negro Deserts From the Enemy" "The Very Latest" "The Latest From General Lee's Army" & more.
The back page has a nice editorial which begins with a rare reprimand by the editor: "The Federal cavalry have escaped, when, by every principle of common sense, they should have been cut off to the last man..." (see). Also on the bkpg. is a notable report: "The Death & Burial of Major-General J.E. B. Stuart, Flower of Cavaliers" with the report and eulogy taking over a full column. The bkpg. also has: "The Confederate Congress" "The Horrours of the American War--Let It Be Stopped--An English View Of It"  plus several Acts and Resolutions form the Confederate Congress.
Complete as a single sheet newspaper with a full banner masthead, in very nice, clean condition.
