LOUISVILLE DAILY COURIER, Kentucky, April 15, 1861

* Fort Sumter attacked
* Charleston SC South Carolina
* American Civil War begins
* In a rare Confederate title

Louisville is difficult to categorize as Union or Confederate during the Civil War as, depending on the time, there were factions within the city supporting both. To placate both sides the two leading newspapers took their stands: the "Courier" was very much pro-Confederate & the "Journal" was more pro-Union. This is the Confederate-leaning newspaper.
The front page has much on the early events of the Civil War with: "The War News--Our Extra" "An Abolition Army to be Called Out--Congress to Assemble" "Lincoln Reiterates His Doctrine of Coercion--He will Stop the Mails" "Our Military Defense" "Union Men for Secession" "THE SEAT OF WAR ! " "The Defenses at Charleston!" "Authentic Description of the Forts & Batteries" which takes over a full column with descriptions of the military installations at Charleston harbor (see for portions).
More war content is inside including: "The Abolition War of Seward, Lincoln and Company" and even more, but the best headlines are on page 3 with uncommonly large type announcing: "THE WAR ! " "Anderson Surrenders" "Cause of The Attack On Sumter!" "Magazines Explode!" "Sumter On Fire!" "Guns Silenced!" "Breach Effected!" "War Vessels Arrive!" "No One Killed!" "An Infernal Fire!" "The White Flag!" "The North Exasperated!" "Troops Tendered to Lincoln!" and more (see). More nice column heads on the back page as well with: "The Bombardment!" "Lincoln's Proclamation!" "Coercion To Be Used!" "Lincoln Will Stop the Mails!" and more.
Complete in four pages with the leaves professionally & archivally rejoined at the spine, in excellent condition.
