* Jackie Robinson breaks the color barrier
The sports page has a report on the Jackie Robinson's debut in the Major League regular season. He had made a public debut game on April 11th, however that was a pre-season game.
The heading simply reports the score of the game: "Brooklyn 5, Braves 3" and the reporting was brief, and includes: "...The opening day crowd of 25,263 saw Jackie Robinson, Negro first baseman for the Dodgers, go hitless in his major league debut..." (see).
Just above this is a game report headed: "Pirates 1, Cubs 0" which begins: "Hank Greenberg, making his National League debut, doubled across the winning run behind Truett (Rip) Sewell's five-hit pitching..." and a bit more (see).
Eighteen pages, binding holes at the blank spine margin, great condition.
