This authentic issue from 1947 has three noteworthy reports:
Baseball History: Page 23 has the historic report of Jackie Robinson's 1st major league regular season game. The brief note includes, "Jackie Robinson, Brooklyn's Negro first baseman, and the first of his race to reach the majors since 1884, failed to get a hit... but his sacrifice-error play... set up the tying and winning runs."
Aviation History: The front page has, "'Bombshell' Completes Global Trip In 79 Hrs. - Unofficial Record Cuts 12 Hours From Previous World-Circling Flying Time", being the report of Milton Reynolds and his aircraft, "Bombshell", breaking the 'round the world' record set by Howard Hughes by several hours. The coverage includes considerable details along with a time-line of the flight.
Tragedy (Calamity History): The front page has a dramatic banner headline, "EXPLOSION IN TEXAS KILLS 350", with subheads (see photos). Included is, "An estimated 350 persons were killed here today in the worst explosion in Texas Gulf Coast history." Nice to have on the same day of the disaster.
This is a wonderfully historic newspaper.
