Page 2 has a letter from a general officer in General Washington's Camp at Middle Brook dated June 23, 1777, which includes: "The enemy...formed a design of going to Philadelphia by land & on the 13th...marched with one division of the army to somerset Court House in hopes of making General Washington quit his place & proceed on in their front to the Delaware..." with more of the battle (see).
Also: "...it was strongly reported...that the famous or rather infamous, Sam Adams, had left the Congress and the country & it was supposed he was gone with his pillage into some of the French West India islands...that General Howe has landed his army at Providence, has taken it, and is in full march for Boston...".
Page 3 has a report of a naval battle followed by a letter from Quebec which includes: "...one instance of Indian barbarity. Capt. Cawler, a provincial officer, who was taken prisoner near Ticonderoga, by a party of savages in the service of General Burgoyne...killed by those barbarians who took out his heart then cut it to pieces reeking from his body & eat it; two other provincials that fell into his hands they boiled and eat..." (see).
Four pages, folio size, period notations in ads & margins, two stains to the front page, otherwise nice condition.
