Page 2 has: "...received from General Sir William Howe containing the particulars of a very considerable advantage obtained over the rebels....That General Howe and Lord Cornwallis have entirely evacuated the Jerseys; that the expedition from New York consists of their whole force & that they are gone against Philadelphia in two divisions, one up Chesapeak bay & the other up Delaware river..." and further on: "...Lord George Germaine still speaks with great confidence of the flourishing state of our affairs in America & that the present campaign must put an end to the civil war...". Also a letter from New York noting: "...to the Congress from General Gates of Ticonderoga was taken prisoner by a party a few miles from Kingston. Her was charged with letters signifying that Brigadier General Wayne, with about 500 provincials, had had a skirmish with some part of General Burgoyne's army...where he had repulsed them with some loss...the royalists were preparing for a second attack..." with more (see).
