June 25, 1777

EDINBURGH EVENING COURANT, Scotland, June 25, 1777

* Rare Revolutionary War title

Most of the front page is taken up with two reports concerning America, one from a more political & economic viewpoint, and the other a letter of a naval officer concerning a naval engagement, with much detail (see).
Page 2 has: "It is generally believed that a treaty of accommodation between Lord Howe...and the Congress is actually on foot...is asserted that the chief obstacle to pacific measures with the Congress is the act of navigation which they insist...upon being repealed....We understand that there is the greatest reason to expect than an end will be put to the troubles there this campaign...families of consequence throughout the middle colonies are daily coming in to the army..." with more on colonists joining the British. Also: "It is believed that Gen. Howe will not push for Philadelphia this campaign but will savour the operations of Generals Carleton and Burgoyne....in order to draw the attention of Mr. Washington towards the southward..." and a bit more (see).
Four pages, folio size, some period notations in ads & margins, very nice condition.
