May 17, 1777

EDINBURGH EVENING COURANT, Scotland, May 17, 1777  Most of page 2 is taken up with at: "List of vessels seized as prizes, & of recaptures made by the American squadron between the 10th of March & the 31st of December, 1776, according to the returns received by the Vice Admiral the Viscount Howe." with considerable detail (see for portions).
Page 3 has a letter from Charleston, South Carolina which includes: "On the morning of the 17th Fort Mackintosh, at Stilla, was attacked by a large party from Florida...The enemy kept up a smart fire on the garrison for about 5 hours...required the garrison to surrender..." and further on: "...by the late glorious conflagration of rebel stores & shore houses at Peek's Kill our brave follows have balanced accounts with the Yankees, turned the tables upon them in their own way...". Also reports from the Boston Gazette, and a letter from New York, one item noting: "Every thing is preparing for opening the campaign. It is the general opinion here that we shall put an end to the rebellion in less than three months."
Four pages, folio size, some period notations in ads & margins, very nice condition.
