EDINBURGH COURANT, Scotland, April 7, 1777

* American Revolutionary War
* Battle of Princeton, New Jersey
* General George Washington

Page 2 has a notable report on Washington's victory in the Battle of Princeton, from "Col. Jesse Root in the Provincial service, dated Jan. 8, 1777" which includes: "...an express arrived from Gen. Washington with the interesting news that last Friday he attacked a party of the enemy about 3 miles east from Prince-town, killed and took 500; he also took six field pieces...The express also informs that on Sunday the militia of Morris-town turned out very spiritedly & that they attacked a party of Waldeckers...One division of General Washington's army was at Morris-town, in New Jersey, when the last account came away." (see)
Page 3 has a letter from New York which includes: "Our campaign opens...early in spring when it is expected we shall be greatly harassed by long marches as there is no doubt of the rebel army flying before us, as our troops are determined principally to use their bayonets, a weapon they have a particular aversion to...". Further on is: "All accounts received here from America agree that General Howe must before this time be in possession of Philadelphia...By Sir William's taking Philadelphia, he will likewise take a vast number of merchant vessels lying in that port which cannot escape...". A few other war-related items.
Four pages, folio size, some period notations in ads & margins, bit close-trimmed at the top causing loss to the top line of pgs. 2 & 3, otherwise very nice.
