November 18, 1776

EDINBURGH EVENING COURANT, Scotland, Nov. 18, 1776

* General Benedict Arnold
* American Revolutionary War

Almost the entire front page is taken up with the conclusion of: "An Authentic Journal of Occurrences which happened within the Circle of Major Meig's Observations in that Extraordinary route of Colonel Arnold & his Army from the Neighbourhood of Boston to Quebec, with the Operations of that Army against Quebec." (see for portions. Note: this is the last of 3 parts: part 1 is item 596536, and part 2 is 596537. Inquire if not visible).
Page 2 has a dispatch from New York which includes: "...Nothing could exceed the extravagant joy of the people left in New York on their release from the tyranny of the rebels..." and commenting on the great fire of New York City: "That this fire, so furious in its progress and destructive in its consequences, began by accident is greatly to be doubted..." with more. Also: "The advocates of America incessantly declare that if we ever conquer the revolted Colonies, we cannot keep them in a state of subjection without a very large standing army...As their rebellion has created the necessity of such a military establishment it is surely reasonable that the weight of it should fall upon their own soldiers..." (see).
Four pages, folio size, red tax stamp on the front page, nice condition.
