EDINBURGH EVENING COURANT, Scotland, April 22, 1776

* Battle of Quebec - Richard Montgomery

Page 3 has a report noting: "General Clinton...with 150 soldiers, are now here on the way to Cape Fear to join Governor Martin who is at the head of 3000 highlanders...The total defeat of the Provincial General Montgomery before Quebec has struck the rebels with a panic: He was killed & his whole army cut off, or taken prisoners...The rebels are in distress in New England for want of bread." Further on is a letter from New York which includes: "An affair has lately been discovered here which has given no small uneasiness to the Congress..." with the details of an intrigue involving stolen notes, etc. (see). More reporting concerning war-related events in America.
Four pages, folio size, red tax stamp on the front page with the plate number (see), very nice condition.
