April 03, 1776

EDINBURGH EVENING COURANT, Scotland, April 3, 1776  Page 3 has: "It was yesterday morning asserted in the city as a fact that two certain persons in Philadelphia; who have pretended to be most zealous in opposing the measures of government against the Americans, by which they got at the secrets of the Congress, have been detected in holding a correspondence with some of the principal officers of the King's forces by their letters being intercepted, which they discovered just time enough to escape being taken into custody & being tarred, feathered, and scalped...." and a bit more regarding the war.
Four pages, folio size, red tax stamp on the ftpg., nice condition.
