Page 5 has: "Missouri" "Bank Robbery and Murder" and "The Bank at Liberty, Missouri, Robbed of $72,000 by Bushwhackers--A Boy Killed For Giving and Alarm." The report has nice details about the first known bank robbery conducted by the James gang, mentioning that there were twelve in the group, most of whom stayed outside as guards. The report notes that two of the gang entered the Clay County Savings Association, in Liberty, Missouri and: "...presented cocked revolvers at the heads of the Cashier, and his son, forced them into the vault and compelled them to deliver up all the money in the bank. As the robbers were leaving, Mr. Baired thrust his head out of the window & gave the alarm. A boy...repeated the alarm, and was shot five times and instantly killed..." with more (see photos).
They divided the loot at Mount Gilead Church which allowed them to scatter. The report concludes with: "...Three of the robbers were recognized as notorious bushwhackers during the war.", obviously an indication that the robbery was the work of the James boys, although they are not mentioned by name.
Complete in 8 pages, a bit irregular at the blank spine margin, very nice condition.
