July 27, 1779

THE EDINBURGH ADVERTISER, Scotland, July 27, 1779  Page 2 has: "Advices from America mention that Sir Henry Clinton had advanced up the North river so far as to be within six miles of Washington's lines, who was then in force with about 6000 men but without hopes of reinforcements..." (see). Also: "Monsieur Tourgot, a friend of Dr. Franklin...and several other sages are now busily employed in composing institutions, or a code of laws, for the rising states of America..." with more.
Page 3 has: "...an express from the Provincial Congress in Newburn, South Carolina, to the grand Congress at Philadelphia has been intercepted; it contained dispatches...after the supposed defeat of General Prevost near Charlestown but makes no mention of that event...". Also a report of evacuating Baltimore due to the approaching British. American items on page 4 as well.
Eight pages, 8 1/2 by 11 1/4 inches, nice condition.
