THE GLASGOW MERCURY, Scotland, December 21, 1780

* Battle of Camden, South Carolina
* Charles Cornwallis vs. Horatio Gates
* John Paul Jones - Benedict Arnold & more

Page 3 has "A Proclamation" signed in type by: Cornwallis, not long after his victory over General Gates at Camden, South Carolina, concerning: "...his Majesty's unparalleled clemency to those of his deluded subjects who, from a sense of their errors, have returned to their duty & allegiance, there are several persons of property in this province who obstinately persist in their guilty & treasonable practices & are either in the service or acting under the authority of the Rebel Congress..." (see for portions). This Proclamation takes nearly two-thirds of the page.

Page 4 has a report: "...That Capt. Paul Jones has sent back his commission to Dr. Franklin--that he intends disposing of the Ariel frigate...& that the fortune he has accumulated does not exceed 28,000 pounds...he intends to spend the remainder of his days, without he can obtain a pardon from the King of England."
Over half a page is taken up with a report from Augusta, Georgia, concerning a battle of Col. Brown during the British siege of Augusta, with much detail (see photos). This is followed by a report: "...that Gen. Clinton had received a letter from Gen. Washington by a flag of truce informing him that Gen. Arnold's lady & family should be delivered up on the same number of American officers being exchanged for them..." (see photos).

Eight pages, 9 by 12 inches, nice condition.
