THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, March, 1769  Among articles in this issue are: "Memorial for the Expulsion of the Jesuits" "Some Modern Travelers into Egypt Compared" "The Authenticity of Josephus Examined" "A Speech in Parliament just before the Grand Rebellion" "Of Churching of Women" and "Ferguson's Method of Constructing Sun Dials" which is accompanied by a full page print with 4 illustrations (see).
Near the back is the "Historical Chronicle" which has the latest news reports of the day. One paragraph notes: "The Esquimeaux [Eskimo] lade lately brought over from the coast of Canada, was presented to her R. H. the Princess Dowager of Wales..." with more (see). Plus there are some reports concerning America including; "...letter from the Dean of St. Paul's...to the Royal society requesting the direction of that learned society for securing the cathedral from the sudden effects of lightning was referred to a committee consisting of Dr. Franklyn [Franklin], Dr. Watson..." with more, and "A bill to prevent mutiny & desertion in his Majesty's colonies in America...".
The sun dial plate noted  above is the only plate called for in this issue.
Complete in 56 pages, full title/contents page featuring an engraving of St. John's Gate, 5 by 8 1/4 inches, very nice condition.

A very nice magazine from during the midst of troubles leading to the Revolutionary War from the "mother country" with a wide range of varied content including news of the day, political reports, literary items, and other unusual tidbits. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
