June 06, 1780

THE LONDON CHRONICLE, England, June 6, 1780  Inside has a report from Paris which includes in part: "Dr. Franklyn [sic] has received a packet of letters...from New York by General Clinton & taken by a Boston privateer among which is the...letter from the General to Lord George Germaine dated Savannah, in Georgia, Jan. 30, in which he explains all the reasons which have delayed the siege of Charlestown...that Washington had an army of 16,000 men & was lately reinforced by General Sullivan...returned from a successful expedition against the Indians...destined for the siege of Charlestown, the loss of which entirely deranged his designs...willing to go forward but he wanted more troops...concludes with describing the strength of Charlestown which Gen. Lincoln had fortified in the most skillful manner..." with more (see for full text).
