THE LONDON CHRONICLE, England, April 4, 1765 The front page has a letter with news from Montego Bay, Jamaica, that: "...the negroes in & about that place, who are very numerous, had formed a horrid conspiracy for massacring all the white inhabitants..." with other details. Also a report "From the Quebec Gazette" and an item from South Carolina concerning the culture of hemp (see).
Of much timely interest is nearly a full page of discussion headed: "Extract from the Mutual Interest of Great Britain & the American Colonies...with respect to an Act passed...for Laying a Duty on Merchandise...", this being, in part, the hated Stamp Act. One item notes: "...But who can blame them for becoming mechanicks when they find themselves oppressed by the mother country, with duties which they are unable to bear?..." Much great content concerning the pros & cons of imposing a tax on the colonies (see for portions).
Eight pages, 8 by 11 1/4 inches, very nice condition.
