The front page has a report of the first public flights by the Wright brothers, when Wilbur Wright took his plane to France and gave a demonstration to a crowd of skeptics near LeMans, France. Because the Wright brothers had been so secretive since their initial 1903 flight (had yet to receive a patent), many around the world refused to believe they created an practical flying machine. These successful flights on August 8-11, 1908, converted all skeptics and caused them to be heralded around the world.
