THE PENNSYLVANIA MERCURY & UNIVERSAL ADVERTISER, Philadelphia, May 29, 1788  The ftpg. is filled with ads. Pg. 3 has "American Intelligence" with reports from Fredericksburg, Baltimore, Philadelphia & New York, the latter noting election reports from Mass. including: "...the rest are divided between Mr. Adams, etc. etc. Mr. Hancock has nine-tenths of the votes for Governor. Gerry has the remainder." A report from Phila. includes: "...that the state of Georgia have granted 30 millions of acres of land to the new Confederacy, provided the adoption of nine states should take place...Such is the noble spirit of conciliation, concession & union now rising in the bosom of Americans. We trust this tribute of respect to the new Confederacy will be followed by others equally important...".
Four pages, 9 1/2 by 11 inches, great condition.
