January 03, 1800

MASSACHUSETTS MERCURY, Boston, Jan. 3, 1800  Page two has several reports concerning the death of George Washington, including a notice from the Virginia Legislature which  notes: "Resolved, unanimously, That the members of this house, in token of their profound grief for the loss of the illustrious & beloved fellow citizen GEORGE WASHINGTON, will each wear a badge of mourning..." which is followed by a great and very detailed: "Particular account of the late Illness and Death of General Washington" which is the official report of his physicians & signed by them in type: James Craik and Elisha C. Dick (see). This is a very famous report.
This is followed by "A Proclamation" by the governor of Maryland concerning the death of Washington, and followed yet again by an item from the "Grand Lodge of the State of N. York" of the Masons, concerning Washington's death. There are several other Washington-related items as well, as shown in the many photos.
This issue has never-trimmed margins, has all pages with wide black mourning rules, and is in excellent condition.
Contemporary reports concerning the death & funeral of George Washington are exceedingly scarce today. This is an early and nice report with much on the honors to Washington for his recent death on December 14. Complete in four pages.
