January 24, 1861

THE NEW YORK HERALD, January 24, 1861  This genuine newspaper has a wealth of pre-Civil War reporting from during Abraham Lincoln's president elect era, before his inauguration.

Among the one column headlines on the tensions building in the South prior to the Civil War are:

* THE REVOLUTION
* IMPORTANT NEWS FROM THE SOUTH
* The Southern Confederacy to Extend to the Orinoco
* The African Slave Trade to be Reopened
* Proposed Resignation of all the Members of Congress

and more. Loads of interesting reading

Complete in eight pages. This issue is not fragile as newsprint from this era was made of cotton and linen rags, allowing them to remain very pliable and easy to handle.  Nice condition.
