February 08, 1861

THE NEW YORK TIMES, February 8, 1861

* Pre civil war tensions
* Secession talks throughout the South
* Interesting original reading

This issue is loaded with advertisements and some pre civil war reports which includes the following headlines:

"THE NATIONAL TROUBLES", "Interesting From the Federal Capital", "Nothing Done yet by the Peace Conference", "Particulars of the Surrender of the Cutter Robert McClelland", "the decay of Charleston" and more.

This issue is not fragile as newsprint from this era was made of cotton and linen rags, allowing them to remain very pliable and easy to handle. Tiny binding holes along spine, minor margin wear but otherwise in very nice condition.
