February 25, 1942

LOS ANGELES EXAMINER--WAR EXTRA, Feb. 25, 1942  Boldly printed above the masthead is: "W A R  E X T R A" and the screaming, two-line banner headline reads: "AIR BATTLE RAGES OVER LOS ANGELES" with subheads as well (see photos). An unusual and totally erroneous report which played on the hysteria of the day when Los Angeles was placed on alert. No planes were shot down, the only death was from a heart attack, and the only damage was from traffic accidents during the blackout & the barrage of artillery fire shot at the "swarms of planes" presumed to be over the skyline of Los Angeles.
A fascinating "error headline" and a great issue for any collection of curious or erroneous reports. This is the complete front section with 16 pages & in very nice condition.
