July 11, 1826

CONNECTICUT HERALD, New Haven, July 11, 1826

Complete 4 page issue announcing the death of both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson

One of the interesting ironies of American history is that both Thomas Jefferson and John Adams died on the same day--the 50th anniversary of the fourth of July. This is one of the better newspapers to report the event, as more commonly their deaths were noted in separate issues.

Page 2 has an article beginning: "The ex-presidents ADAMS and JEFFERSON are no more..." with much more (see), and this is followed by an article headed: "Death of Ex-President Adams" which takes over a full column, and beneath it is a short dispatch form the Baltimore Patriot headed: "Thomas Jefferson Is No More. Just as our paper was going to press, Mr. Skinner handed us the following letter..." (see).

And following this is an article: "Death Of Thomas Jefferson" (see). there is also much coverage of the "Fourth Of July".

Four pgs., never bound nor trimmed, some staining to the ftpg. only, generally in very nice condition.
