On the front page under Law Of the U. States, and an engraving of an eagle and shield is: "An Act making appropriation for the compensation to the Members and Officers, and for the Contingent Expenses, of the two Houses of Congress. States that a sum of $455,000 be appropriated for compensation to House and Senate members, Delegates of Territories, their officers and attendants, ...and the further sum of $80,000 for fuel, stationary and all other contingent expenses...the...sums to be paid out of any money in the Treasury, not otherwise appropriated." Signed in type: John Quincy Adams. Stray writing above the masthead, otherwise in nice condition.
