July 22, 1939

NEW YORK WORLD-TELEGRAM, July 22, 1939

* Jane Bolin sworn in as judge (NYC)
* 1st African-American black Woman

The front page page has a very notable item, being a report of the first African-American woman judge in the United States. The two column heading reads: "First Negro Woman Judge In City Appointed by Mayor".
Jane Bolin was the first black woman to graduate from Yale Law School, the first to join the New York City Bar Association and the first to join the New York City Law Department. She became the first black woman to serve as a judge in the United States when she was sworn into this office on July 22.
Complete with 30 pages, light toning and minor wear at the margins, generally very nice.
