Perhaps the most noteworthy article is found on page 2 and is in regard to the Mormon War. Although unnamed, our interpretation is that this is an account of The Battle of Crooked River or related skirmishes.
Two interesting articles found on the front page are related to election fraud.
An uncommon title from this city which sits at the confluence of the Susquehanna River & West Branch of the Susquehanna. This is from the first year of publication.
Four pages, never bound nor trimmed, mild wear at the margins, good condition.

AI notes: The Battle of Crooked River, fought on October 25, 1838, in Ray County, Missouri, was a key conflict during the 1838 Mormon War between Mormon settlers and Missouri state militia and vigilantes. Tensions had escalated due to political, religious, and economic differences between Mormons and non-Mormons in the region. The battle occurred when a group of Mormon militia led by David W. Patten attempted to rescue fellow Mormons who had been taken prisoner by a Missouri militia unit. In the pre-dawn skirmish near Crooked River, Patten was mortally wounded, and several others were killed or injured on both sides. Although the Mormons won tactically, the event intensified anti-Mormon sentiment and led Missouri Governor Lilburn Boggs to issue the infamous Extermination Order, which called for the expulsion of Mormons from the state.
