Rare Confederate title with good war content...

Item # 705331

September 17, 1863

WESTERN SENTINEL, Winston, North Carolina, September 17, 1863

* Rare Confederate title from the Civil War

This is a very rare title from the Confederacy. According to Brigham only four institutions in the United States have any holdings of this title from the Civil War, most just a few scattered issues. The American Antiquarian Society has no issues recorded from this era.
The entire front page and a bit of the back page are taken up with the: "Address of the Army, To the People of North Carolina", which is the result of: "A general convention of delegates from each Regiment of troops from North Carolina in the Army of Northern Virginia..." which obviously has a considerable amount of content concerning the Civil War. It is signed on the back page by the various officers.
The inside pages have much on the Civil War as well, with items headed: "The News" "The Governor's Proclamation" "Meeting of the People" "Peace Meetings Rebuked" "The Siege of Charleston" "Interesting from Gen. Bragg's Army" and more. Also on pg. 3 is an ad headed: "Confederate War Tax Notice" and a: "Notice--Valuable Land, Negroes, and Other Property at Public Auction..." with details.
In addition to the conclusion of the lengthy military report noted above, the back page has "The Final Result" and "Written Under Abraham's Nose" along with a number of ads.
Complete in four pages, a very light water stain in the upper right, otherwise in very nice condition.
