Capitol Pediment artwork of Luigi Persico is completed and unveiled...

NILES' WEEKLY REGISTER, Baltimore, Nov. 8, 1828 Page 4 has a very detailed article on the completion of the carved artwork of Luigi Persico, the artist who created the "Genius of America" pediment which fronts the Capitol building in Washington. It was work in progress from 1825 - 1828 and this report describes the work, beginning: "The scaffolding and shed which have so long concealed from the public eye the tympanum of the capitol have at length been removed, and the lover of the fine arts cannot be but truly gratified with the beautiful production of the chisel which has been disclosed. Mr. Persico has shewn himself to be an artist of the superior class..." with much more. It would be restored in 1962.

Sixteen pages, 6 1/4 by 9 3/4 inches, scattered foxing, nice condition.
As noted in Wikipedia, this title: "...(was) one of the most widely-circulated magazines in the United States...Devoted primarily to politics...considered an important source for the history of the period."
