A very rare & desired title by any baseball collector as this was the first magazine in America devoted primarily to baseball.
Edited by the legendary Henry Chadwick, this paper lasted but 30 issues, from June 6 thru December 26, 1867 before changing its name to the 'American Chronicle' (which in turn lasted only 31 issues more).
Featured is an elaborate masthead picturing baseball, croquet, and cricket matches in progress. Near the back the Prospectus notes that the: "...Ball Players' Chronicle...will be devoted to the interests of our National game, and to the kindred sports of the field, such as Cricket, Croquet, etc...the publishers...feel assured that there is a very favorable opening for a paper devoted almost exclusively to our American Game of Ball..." with much more.
The entire front page is taken up with: "Base Ball - The Game In New York" "The Visit of the Keystone Club to New York" "Their Victories Over the Excelsior, Atlantic and Eckford Clubs" "Pleasant Contests and No Gambling". Included are 3 box scores.
Pages 2, 34, & 5 are consumed with various reports on baseball games with many box scores.
A page has reports on "Cricket" and "Quoiting" and then the remaining pages are again taken up with baseball content and related advertisements.
Complete in 12 pages, 11 by 15 inches, in great condition.
All issues of this seminal publication are very scarce.
