THE PENNSYLVANIA GAZETTE, Philadelphia, March 31, 1768 The newspaper was made famous by Ben Franklin, its owner & printer several years previous. His name appeared on the imprint through 1765.
Page 2 has various reports which reference John Dickinson's famous "Letters from a Farmer" series, which appeared in the newspaper, as well as others. A report from Boston includes: "...That the THANKS of the town be given to the ingenious author of a course of Letters published at Philadelphia, and in this place, signed A FARMER, wherein the rights of the American subjects are clearly stated, and fully vindicated; and Dr. Benjamin Church, John Hancock, Mr. Samuel Adams, Dr. Joseph Warren, and John Rowe, were appointed a committee to prepare & publish a letter of thanks...".
Another report from Providence is similar, noting: "...public meeting to vote the thanks of the town to the ingenious and worthy author of the Farmer's Letters..." and more. There is also at least two mentions of the Stamp Act, repealed just a few years previous.
Four pages, handsome coat-of-arms in the masthead, in great condition.
