DESERET NEWS, Great Salt Lake City, U.T. (Utah Territory), April 30, 1853

An early issue of the first newspaper in Utah, having begun in 1850. This is the volume 3, number 12 issue.
Most of the front page is taken up with a portion of the: "Life Of Joseph Smith".
Page 3 has: "TERRITORY  OF UTAH - PROCLAMATION BY THE GOVERNOR" which is signed by him in type: Brigham Young.
This is Young's action to create a military force to quell the problems with: "...a horde of Mexicans, or outlandish men, who are infesting the settlements, stirring up the Indians to make aggressions upon the inhabitants; & who are also furnishing the Indians with guns, ammunition, etc..."
Also within: "Mormonism in Washington" "Minutes of the General Conference...Pres. Young delivered the following SERMON", and other items.
Four pages, dirtiness & some fold wear to the top quadrant of the front page only, otherwise in good condition.
