SPIRIT OF THE TIMES, subtitled: "A Chronicle of the Turf, Field Sports, and the Stage", New York, Oct. 23, 1869

* 1st professional baseball team Cincinnati Reds

The first professional baseball team was the Cincinnati Red Stockings, organized in 1869. During their initial professional season they went undefeated against Association teams, a record of 57-0, the only perfect season in the history of professional baseball.
Here is a report of the Red Stockings vs. the Philadelphia Athletics from their first year as a professional team. The text is uncommonly lengthy and detailed taking over half a column.
Note the mention of "Wright" in the box score and within the game report. He was their centerfielder.
Harry Wright was not just a member of the first professional baseball team but is credited with many major innovations to the game of baseball.
Sixteen pages, 11 by 15 1/2 inches, blank margin loss at the lower right not affecting text, nice condition.
