SAN DIEGO DAILY UNION, California, Nov. 9, 1871
* Rare & early from Southern California
Very early from San Diego--a volume 2 issue--when the population was just 2300, with a nice engraving of the harbor in the masthead.
The front page has a wonderful and very detailed travelogue-like depot headed: "FROM LOS ANGELES TO ANAHEIM" with subheads: "Off For Anaheim--Los Angeles for the Mesa--
A Beautiful Sight--Boyle's Farm and Orchard--The Lugo Rancho--Good Roads--Stearns' Rancho of Laguna--Jenkins' 'Farm--Los Nietos--A Famous Farming Section--Wonderful Fertility--The Corn Harvest". This account takes over half of the front page.
Also on the front page: "LATE FROM ARIZONA with subheads: "Discovery of Property of Murdered Mail Carriers in Possession of Colyer's Pets on the Camp Grant Reserve--White Allies Warn the Indians to Escape Justice".
Four pages, 12 by 18 inches, printed on high-quality newsprint, very nice condition.
