Much on Tom Sayers and the boxing championship... The Annual Ball for baseball players...

WILKES' SPIRIT OF THE TIMES, New York, Jan. 14, 1860  It is subtitled in the masthead: "A Chronicle of the Turf, Field Sports, Literature and the Stage". 
Inside has most a page taken up with: "Life And Battles Of Tom Sayers--Seventh Fight of Tom Sayers" which is followed by: "Eighth Fight of Tom Sayers".
Additionally, there is much on the coming match with: "The Championship" "Arrival of Heenan's Representative--the Date Fixed" "Arrival of Heenan's Representative" "Meeting Between the American Representatives and Tom Sayers" and several more subheads. All this takes nearly a full page.
This article was in anticipation of what is considered the first world title international boxing match held on April 17, 1860 between Tom Sayers & John Heenan, lasting 37 rounds and 2 hours 27 minutes, in a bare-knuckle match at Farnborough, England. It was called a draw. Heenan was later acclaimed as the "World Boxing Champion."
Also within are: "Sport In Western Texas" and: "Base Ball" which reports on an Annual Ball of the Bowdoin Base Ball Club of Boston, noting also that: "...This club is composed of a highly respectable class of young men actively engaged in business, who believe alike in the manly sports of the field and the gay joys of the dance."
Sixteen pages, 11 by 15 1/4 inches, a sporting-themed engraving in the masthead, great condition.
