Item # 692772

July 18, 1850

THE DAILY DELTA, New Orleans, July 18, 1850

* From the deep South
* Rare Antebellum publication

Newspapers from the pre-Civil War South are rather difficult to find. Here is one from Louisiana.
Among the many back page ads is one headed: "Slaves! Slaves! Slaves!" which notes in part: "The subscribers are prepared to receive, on consignment, for sale in this market, any number of slaves, having one of the best showrooms in the city, & large & comfortable quarters where every attention will be paid to their comfort. Merchants, planters, and families having slaves to dispose of will find it to their interest to place them in our charge..." with a bit more.
Also on the back page has an ad for: "Negro Clothing".
Page 3 has an illustrated "$20 Reward" ad for a runaway, with details, plus another offering a: "$50 Reward!". Then a: "Notice To Colored Persons. Bath-House for Colored Persons". Page 2 has an illus. ad for; "Colt's Pistols".
Four pages, various foxing, archivally rejoined at the spine, good condition.
