NEW YORK HERALD, April 5, 1865
* Civil War end in sight
* General Ulysses S. Grant
* Robert E. Lee's army breaking up
Most of the first column of the front page is taken up with celebratory heads on the collapse of the Confederacy, and the end of the Civil War. Among them are: "THE END" "Our Details of the Decisive Contest of Sunday" "What Grant Has Accomplished" "The Destruction of Lee's Army" "25,000 Rebels Taken Prisoners" "The Pursuit of the Routed Rebels" "Occupation of Petersburg" "Laus Deo" and more.
Virtually the entire ftpg. is taken up with war reports relating to these headlines, plus the war coverage continues on the inside pages as well.
Eight pages, small binding slits and a little close cut along the spine, generally in good condition.
