A "Copperhead" newspaper on the fall of the Rebel capital...

Page 5 has a very historic report on the fall of Richmond, the capital of the Confederacy, and which signaled the end of the Civil War which would come a few days later. The top of the first column has: "THE WAR" "The Fall of Richmond!" which includes several signed dispatches concerning the final terms of agreement, including six signed: A. Lincoln (see). Also on pg. 5: "Sherman's Campaign--Southern Account".
There is much more Civil War reporting including a ftpg: "President Lincoln on Missouri Affairs" signed by him in type: A. Lincoln (see), and inside has: "Congratulatory Order from General Sherman" and more.
Eight pages, never bound nor trimmed, various foxing throughout with some minor rubbing wear at folds.
Described as "The Hottest Rebel Sheet to be found in the North or the South", this newspaper opposed the war and attracted the hatred of the Republicans and the Lincoln administration. It insisted that slavery could not be prohibited by law. So obnoxious was this paper to Unionists that it was denied circulation in some cities. In 1863 the press was raided by a hateful mob.
