November 19, 1886

THE DILLON TRIBUNE, Beaverhead County, M.T. (Montana Territory), Nov. 19, 1886  A quite rare newspaper from the Territory of Montana, it not becoming a state until 1889.
Dillon was founded in the Beaverhead Valley as a railroad town in 1880 by Union Pacific Railroad President Sidney Dillon. The town's location was selected by the railroad because of its proximity to gold mines in the area.
Page 6 is entirely taken up with several chapters of: "The Story Of A Mine" by Bret Harte. There are 4 small illustrations within this text. Harte was an American short story writer and poet best remembered for short fiction featuring miners, gamblers, and other romantic figures of the California Gold Rush.
Also within is a black-borders report on the death of: "Chester A. Arthur", former President. And the front page has: "The First Explorers of the Rockies" taking over a column.
Eight pages, various archival mends at margins, mild fold wear to the front page, generally good condition.
